10 foxes down in two nights in a local property. Shooting on foot using the Pulsar hand scanner to find the animals. Then closing in on foot and shooting with the NV rifle combo.
An insight into my trip to the Vic alps chasing the elusive Sambar deer. More of a V-Log but some might enjoy a look.

Here's what I've recently taken for 4 nights into the Victorian Alps in June (not July as I say in the video, was a bit smashed, big morning). I've used this setup since 2010 as low as -9°C and been toasty warm.
Local Hunting Block Scouting Trip for Fallow Deer 2019
Great country but this trip wasn't to be. Plagued by park closures and burned area's. Oh well, I'll be back in Spring!
Here's a hunting gear checklist & pack dump of what I'll be taking to the Australian Alps for the first week in May 2019. Links to my Google sheets lists below.

Short opportunistic 24hr dash away chasing a few fallow bucks during the rut. I'd cancelled out the plans for this year's rut hunting as I'm heading to Vic chasing Sambar in 2 weeks. But we had a quite weekend and my mates were away hunting so I joined them overnight. Worth the effort. Not my biggest buck by far but none the less it was a good afternoon and morning hunt. Plenty of fallow around croaking away. Excuse the quality as this was just filmed on a mobile phone.
Quick overnight fastpacking trip. 5kg total pack weight (Including food and water), 44 km, 1500m vert, 8hrs.
Just a quick little review of these two quality bino chest rigs. The Vortex is already for sale. Figured while I had both I'd chuck some thoughts up. Apologies for the dodgy sound, I just filmed this one on my phone.
Stones used noted below. About the only main variable I run might be to use a 125/160 Micron Venev Diamond stone to reprofile a new edge angle or do major chip removal etc.
Progression on this video are as follows:
- Venev Bonded Diamond in 40/50 Micron (210x35mm)
- Venev Bonded Diamond in 14/20 Micron (210x35mm)
- Naniwa Chosera 1,000 grit (150x25mm)
- Naniwa Chosera 3,000 grit (150x25mm)
- Sigma Power Sellect II 6,000 grit (150x25mm)
- Sigma Power Sellect II 13,000 (150x25mm)
- Premium Kangaroo Leather Strop with Jende Poly Diamond 0.25 Micron Emulsion, Home made Strop (210x40mm).
I don't like to strop too much. As I've learned with the BESS edge tester you get sharper results with minimal stropping. Too much stropping results in a less sharp edge. And I like a hard strop. The only nano cloth strop I really find gives a great edge finish is the 0.025 micron after the roo leather.
We are working diligently towards the completion of this feature, we will keep you updated on its progress and share more details in the coming weeks. We appreciate your support and look forward to unveiling this exciting addition to our platform soon.
