Back in the days before the "Buy Back", when we could still use our semi's, when I was licensed for a sidearm. Those were the days.
In this action packed shooting video I'm out with my son thermal hunting with the brand new, Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG50 in the field, let's RIP in. This shooting trip I'm out hunting feral pigs, deer, foxes and feral cats. There's heaps of thermal shooting footage with this new scope displaying real world usage and performance. Join me and my 7 year old little boy as we ride around on the quad bike taking care of pest animals. It's a beautiful area to spend time in, I'm grateful to get the work up there and spend some quality time away with the little fella. Always a big thanks to the property owners for having us up.
Sorry guys the original version of this video has been demonetised and restricted (basically the death of a video on this platform). So I had to edit, and cut out anything mildly graphic, even if blurred heavily. Hence this soft version and re-uploaded video. The original version is still visible if you wish to watch it, but you need to be signed into Youtube and 18+.
I'm not shooting for human consumption on this trip, it is purely pest control of invasive species in Australia. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace, often carrying bacterial and diseases like brucellosis.
I am a vertebrate pest control - contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the suppressor, I hold the necessary permit in NSW to do so. If seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.
Rifle used, I always get asked that - It's a custom Tikka T3 chambered in 6mm BR, 18" Carbon Six CF wrapped barrel and Hi-Tec Industries CF stock. The suppressor is made by Shawmac Industries, which works amazingly well on this cartridge shooting subsonic Speer 75gr Varmint Hollow Points. Regular supersonic ammunition, I'm shooting Nosler 80gr Ballistic Tips (all ammo is reloaded, no please don't ask me for load data as I don't share this information). Thermal scope is obviously a Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG50. For scanner duties, I'm running Pulsar Merger LRF XP50 thermal binoculars.
I'm out on this pest control shoot with a focus on feral pigeons, rabbits, Indian myna birds and big fat rats. Shooting duties fall to my FX Impact M3 in .22 calibre for some BULK shooting. This is a professional pest control cull for a local private landowner with a small game pest problem.
Utilising thermal and night vision equipment can yield great results if the rabbit, pigeon and rat numbers are prevalent. I'm in amongst the horse stables and his chicken coop on this job for plenty of air rifle hunting and shooting action during this YouTube video.
With the recent update to YouTube's T&C's, I have been effected with what I can show on the platform, hence the heavy blurring to any deceased animals. If you wish to see the uncut version that is available via my Patreon.
FX Impact M3 is shooting on song in .22 calibre shooting 23gr Patriot Javelin slugs. Scope is a PARD DS35 LRF with ballistic hold over capability. Thermal hand scanner duties went to the amazing Pulsar Merger LRF XP50 binoculars. For those interested my FX Impact M3 is running a Huma-Air high flow slug & pellet probe but no other power upgrades. It has a standard 600mm barrel with superior liner (not heavy). I'm firing the 23gr slugs at about 925 fps for sub MOA accuracy (Which as 44 ft/lbs for the UK guys that feel the requirement to know this). Few Sabre Tactical upgrades in the mix to the rifle body like the Arca Rail 2, TRS & bag rider. Air supply is by a ShootAir light weight composite tank to refill the rifle bottle as required.

Check this video out as I look over my FX Impact M3 PCP air rifle the morning after a big fall. I was not a happy camper when the tripod toppled over and my expensive gun crunched HARD into a gravel road mid rabbit shoot.
Fortunately, everything other than slight damage is still all functional (now repaired since filming this)
Rifle and shooting set-up as I always get asked:
FX Impact M3 in 22cal. Scope is a PARD DS3570 LRF with ballistic hold over capability. Way back in 2004, we came up with the idea of a multi-species Aussie hunt as a fundraiser for the RIDGE group. (www.theridgegroup.net)
We named it the Aussie Challenge, with the lucky winner hunting for fallow deer in Tasmania, Chital deer in North Queensland and Red deer in the Brisbane Valley. Fishing for trout, barramundi and Tuna was also on the list. Here is the Outdoor Channel episode filmed for us by Wolf Creek Productions of Michigan.
This shooting trip we are out hunting invasive feral pigs, foxes and wild deer. There's plenty of action packed footage in this video with my GoPro on a head mount in daylight. As usual there's also bulk kill shots with the thermal once it got dark too!!!
The grass is definitely sky high with feed levels at 6+ feet high in a lot of the areas we had access to in my mates Polaris XP1000 side by side buggy. Attempting to shoot a lot of country we can access was just not worth the time with such limited visibility, but we stacked up bulk animals out on the more open stubble fields.
Big thanks to my unnamed mate "Bucket" for the invite out seeking assistance on this contract for pest control. It's a beautiful area to spend time and I'm grateful to get the work up there.
Critters on the deck and not killing native animals and damaging agriculture is the aim of the game. These uncontrolled animals are an environmental and agricultural menace in Australia and are mostly classed as invasive pest species.
I am a vertebrate pest control - contract shooter in NSW. For those wondering about the suppressors, both my mate and I hold the necessary permits in NSW to do so. If seeking information regarding that, please check the FAR webpage for details. All shooting is performed on privately owned farms, with exclusive permission granted in writing for paid services.
Both rifles used are chambered in 308 Winchester.
Daytime pump action footage is with a Arrtech Prima XP, shooting Sako 130gr Hollow Point ammo.
Night time, I'm running my Ruger American Predator 18" rifle. This rig is fitted into a MDT Gen 2 LSS chassis, running reloaded ammunition with 150 grain Hornady SST projectiles. There is a sprinkling of subsonic rounds used which are reloads using 190 Sub-X projectiles. My thermal scope is the new Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XG50. For a scanner I'm running a Pulsar Merger LRF XP50.
Welcome to the first clip on McGhie's Mad Mondays!
We will start with one about our annual red deer ballot, taken a few years back but it mostly still holds true today. Our 2023 ballot is in jeopardy due to legislation and insurance issues that we are working our way through.
We will "stick to our guns", hold onto our hunting ethics and morality.
This will be all explained so stay tuned.
Thousands of hunters from all around the world, have spent time at the Glenfiddich Hunting Lodge. Situated high in the mountains, near where the three rivers meet, the Brisbane, Burnett and Mary, this was a hut that welcomed everyone, no matter your situation, rich or poor, all you needed was respect for your fellow man. Strong values and principles were it trademark and its demise.
Here, over two weeks, is that story.
By now, many people are wondering why the Glenfiddich hut needed to come down. If you understand the old term, "stand to your digs" as I do, it means to "hold to one's principles" and thats what we did. The majority of our supporting landholders hold hunters in very high regard and are right behind our system. Unfortunately a few, and only a few, don't hold hunters in high regard and that is their right. Judy and I were forced into a corner, we had to yield or stand firm.
